Karst systems in alpine environments, like Castleguard, are significantly different from those in relatively flat-lying layers in more temperate regions, like those in Kentucky. The driving forces in an alpine karst environment are more likely to be related to geologic structure (further relating to steeper hydrologic gradient, more intense fracturing, etc). CO2 sources are also quite different in the process of dissolution, which is based off of climate.
