South-Central Kentucky
The karst in south-central Kentucky is an example of one of the main types of karst found in North America.
Warm and humid subtropical climate karst is found here, on flat-lying, thick layers of limestone. An expansive sinkhole plain can be found in the region as well. There is a combination of stratigraphy, and a capped limestone plateau; the protective cap rock has allowed for the enlargement of underground features such as the Mammoth Cave, and many others. |
